Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain ($32 for 0.20oz) is supposedly a revolutionary new lip product that combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain.  It promises to deliver a lightweight, intense glossy color with an extremely long-lasting shine.  I picked up two shades that caught my attention right away, 12 Corail Fauve and 19 Beige Aquarelle.

12 is a bright deep coral, with a touch on the red side.

19 is a light beige-y pink, with barely there shimmers.

I absolutely ADORE these!  I can see why the beauty blogging community is going “goo-goo-ga-ga” over it.  The formula goes on smooth with excellent pigmentation.   It has great staying power once you give it a chance to set.  Though I have to say, the watery application of this lip stain does take some getting used to.  It definitely delivers a creamy, beautiful color while remaining glossy for hours.  The pointy applicator allows for more precise application; and your lips are stained after about 5-10 minutes.  For me, the glossy stain lasts about 3-4 hours.  It does not feel drying; however I tend to use a lip balm underneath.

In my experience, its best applied in two coats, any more than that may emphasize the dryness of your lips or settle into fine lines.  I think 12 is great for those days you want a brighter lip, and 19 (a Sephora online exclusive) is perfect with a smokey eye look.  It does have a soft floral scent, which I don’t mind at all.  The packaging is simple yet classy, though a fingerprint magnet.  It comes housed in black plastic with a shiny gold twist cap.  The peep window for the color to show through is a nice touch for those times when you need to quickly grab a shade.  I wouldn't expect anything less from a high-end, luxury brand such as YSL.  It’s definitely a splurge, but well worth it!  The full line is currently available at Sephora; with one shade (13, a reddish-fuchsia pink) exclusive to Nordstrom.
