Maybelline Super Stay 14HR Lipstick ($8-$10 for 0.12oz) promises super rich color with 14HR super staying power in their exclusive weightless formula. After hunting down several drugstores, I finally found the shade I was looking for, Perpetual Peony.
This shade is a light cool pink with hints of mauve and lavender, depending on the lighting. The formula glides on smooth with a slight creamy feel, and is almost opaque in one coat. Perpetual Peony has a semi-matte finish with no shimmer, which is pretty much what I expected from the tube. I can see it flattering a variety of skin tones. For me, the formula lasted about 3-4 hours (with some drinking and munching). I’ve tried the dabbing method for a softer look; and the slight stain it leaves behind makes this formula last even longer. However, I don’t really see this formula lasting the full 14 hours it promises to deliver.

Surprisingly, this lipstick has excellent pigmentation for a drugstore brand. It ranges in 20 vibrant shades for any heart’s desire: Continuous Cranberry, Ultimate Blush, Fuchsia Forever, Eternal Rose. Beige Forgood, Never Ending Nude, Ceaseless Caramel, Consistently Truffle, Lasting Chestnut, Pout on Pink, Ravishing Rouge, Enduring Ruby, Timeless Crimson, Keep Me Coral, Infinite Iris, Till Mauve Do Us Part, Please Stay Plum, Endless Raisin, Wine and Forever, and Perpetual Peony (the one I bought).
This lipstick does have a candy-like scent, which is not too strong, but one that I could’ve done without. If your lips are already on the dry end, this lipstick may accentuate the dryness or flakiness of your lips. It does become a tad drying after half an hour or so, craving moisture like majority of the other long-wearing formulas. I would recommend applying lip balm before and/or lip gloss on top to help with this.

One huge con for me was the manufacturer’s packaging. It lacks the outer protective plastic wrap that most drugstore lipsticks have. As a result, I saw numerous lipsticks on the shelves opened and tested at the drugstore (part of the reason for my hunt). So before making your purchase, make sure the lipstick is brand new and untouched. It’s definitely one of the better drugstore lipsticks I’ve come across, but the formula is not impressive enough for me to go back for more (especially since I’m not a huge fan of long-wearing formulas due to the drying factor). It is, however, an affordable alternative for those in search of long-wearing formulas, or for lipstick junkies like me to try new products.
