Dior 5 Couleurs Garden Roses Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Dior 5 Couleurs Garden Roses Eyeshadow Palette ($59 for 0.16oz) is the second five-color palette from Dior’s Spring 2012 Garden Party Collection.  The first palette, Garden Pastels, was reviewed in a previous post here.  The shadows in this limited edition Garden Roses palette have the same beautifully embossed rose motif, giving it its wow factor.

On the top left of the palette, the shade is a soft pastel pink with a shimmery frost finish.

The shade on the bottom left of the palette is a silvery-taupe with shimmery sheen.

On the top right of the palette, the shade is a beige pink with a frosty sheen.

The shade on the bottom right of the palette is a pale lilac with a soft frosty finish.

The center shade of the palette is a mauve-like purple with a slight shimmer finish.

As I mentioned in my review of Garden Pastels, the luxurious packaging and colors are what caught my eye and made me skip a heartbeat.  But the love pretty much stops there.  The color combination in this palette, as expected, is perfectly suited for spring.  It definitely leans warmer than Garden Pastels, but can easily be worn by a variety of skin tones.  Disappointingly, the shades in this palette are again on the sheerer and frosty side.  My favorite shades in this palette are the soft pastel pink and silvery-taupe, simply for their opacity.  The overall texture is smooth and buttery, except for the center purple shade, which was extremely dry and difficult to work with.  I had to do several swipes for my swatch photo for the color to even show.  The experience was similar to Garden Pastels, slight fading after eight hours with no creasing.  I so wanted to love this luxury brand of a palette, but unfortunately, I am not its biggest fan.
